Rizal Hafeez
Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur
We'd been thinking about renovating our terrace house for two years without being able to decide on a direction. Starting with a Climate Consultation was honestly the most useful thing we did. The written assessment gave us clarity on what was actually wrong with the space rather than just what looked dated.

The 3D visualisations were what helped us make the decisions we'd been avoiding. Seeing the natural light handling in the living space made the material choice obvious in a way no sample board had. The specification document the team handed over was detailed enough that our contractor had no questions — which is quite unusual.

We engaged Terrene Co for Season-Through Support after completing the design phase elsewhere. The coordination was handled well — Nadia kept the contractor on schedule and caught a significant tiling issue before the grouting was done. The final arrangement made a real difference to how the rooms felt. Would have been harder to get there without that session.

I appreciated that the timeline was honest rather than optimistic. When they said 7 weeks they meant 7 weeks, accounting for actual KL contractor availability and material lead times. The feedback sessions were structured rather than open-ended, which made it easier to give useful input rather than just reacting to things.

The main thing that stood out was how much Suraya actually listened before suggesting anything. We talked about the space for a long time before any design direction came up. The result felt like it came from understanding how we live rather than imposing something onto us.

We were developing a small guesthouse and needed a design approach that would work in the KL context without looking generic. The indoor-outdoor areas were the most challenging part and the team handled them with obvious experience. The documentation made briefing the contractor straightforward.

Challenge
A Bangsar apartment with west-facing glazing that made the main living area unbearably hot through most of the afternoon. The owners had tried various window treatments without success and were considering a full internal refit.
Solution
Climate Consultation followed by Full Atmosphere Design. The spatial assessment identified that the heat issue was addressable through a combination of internal shading geometry, material changes to the floor and a statement wall, and furniture repositioning — avoiding a full refit.
Results
Afternoon temperature in the main living area reduced noticeably. Natural light retained through morning hours. Full project scope completed in 6 weeks. Client returned 8 months later to commission the bedroom redesign.

Challenge
A hospitality client opening a boutique guesthouse in Bukit Bintang wanted a design that felt specifically Malaysian rather than generic Southeast Asian. Previous designers had proposed approaches that could have been applied to any tropical location.
Solution
Full Atmosphere Design with emphasis on local material sourcing and spatial reference to Kuala Lumpur's layered indoor-outdoor vernacular. Furniture curation drew from local makers. Lighting design addressed the specific quality of morning light in the building's orientation.
Results
Guesthouse opened on schedule. The client reported that guests consistently commented on the space feeling grounded rather than produced. Design awarded recognition at the 2024 Malaysia Design Week showcase. Ongoing relationship with Terrene Co for second property in development.

Challenge
A family in Damansara undertaking a whole-home renovation while both partners were working full-time. They had a completed design from another source but needed consistent on-site oversight — they lacked both the availability and the contractor knowledge to manage implementation themselves.
Solution
Season-Through Support for the full renovation period. Nadia handled all contractor coordination, attended weekly site reviews, managed the procurement schedule, and reported progress clearly each week. When a structural query arose mid-project, she coordinated the additional consultation without the client needing to manage it directly.
Results
Renovation completed within the 12-week timeline. One significant quality issue (substandard tiling adhesive) identified and remedied before it became a long-term problem. Client reported that having a consistent point of contact made the project far less disruptive to their daily routine than expected.
